Lake Mary
Nick’s family has been going to Lake Mary in Crystal Falls, Michigan, for over 40 years. The tradition started with the Rosengrens, their best friends, who have been going for even longer. This is a camping tradition so close to their hearts. I felt honored to go for the first time this year.
To be honest, it took me a little while to get acclimated. I hate bugs and I didn’t grow up on a lake. But a glass of wine, my mother-in-law, Mary Margaret, her friend Terry, and all their wonderful friends on party island (a huge float with seats and cup holders) made me comfortable. It was a blast.
There were tons of little ones there, each one cuter than the other. I could barely handle all the children dancing, swimming, cartwheeling and giggling. It was cuteness overload.
The campground is really big. Most people had camping trailers, and those who had tents, had enormous tents. I’m talking tents that fit 12 people; tents with separate rooms! Nick and I set up our teeny tiny (compared to the others) tent in back of my father-in-law, Tim’s, trailer, which he hysterically named “Cousin Eddie.”
Tim cooked most of the meals; breakfast, lunch and dinner. He’s such an amazing chef. He’s got quite the set-up, too. Two long griddles, so he can make multiple dishes at a time. I’m jealous and want to get one of those for myself! He’s the master at cooking. I’ve got a lot to learn from him.
We got a drone this year; the DJI Spark Drone. After a ton of research, Nick knew it was going to be great. It’s inexpensive (considering), super small (about the size of an iPhone), and super easy to use, especially if you get the remote.
We love collaborating on creative projects together. So we used the drone and the Go-Pro my mother, Bev, gifted to Nick last month, and made a couple of videos of our time at Lake Mary.
Nick shot most of the footage, but Tim helped out, too. Nick and I went through all of it while we were there and edited it together. You’ll see that I drove a jet ski for the first time ever and I am hooked! I can’t wait to go again.
All in all, the bugs weren’t so bad, I don’t mind using an outhouse anymore, and there are worse things than smelling like bug spray all the time.
Most importantly, nothing beats spending quality time with family and friends. I’m so thankful for having them in my life. Super special thanks to the Rosengren family for inviting me to their amazing week spent in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. You guys are awesome.
Enjoy the videos!
