North Carolina BBQ Sauce (NC Sauce)
Remember when I bragged about living so close to Slows BBQ in Detroit? Well, like their Mac 'n' Cheese, I've spent years at trying to recreate their NC Sauce, which is the best thing in the world. This North Carolina BBQ Sauce is vinegary, spicy, and it goes so well with pulled pork, coleslaw and pickles, I'm not even kidding. My mouth is watering as I type this. Seriously.
However you prepare your pulled pork is up to you, but you'll be missing out if you don't include soaking it in this sauce!
INGREDIENTS
4 cups apple cider vinegar
4 tablespoons dark brown sugar
2 tablespoon ketchup
2 tablespoon Frank's Red Hot Sauce
3 teaspoon red pepper flakes
3 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoon kosher salt
Directions
- Place all of the ingredients in a small, non-reactive sauce pan and bring to a boil. Whisk until the sugar and salt is completely dissolved, remove from heat, and allow to cool to room temperature.
- Pour the sauce into a jar or squeeze bottle and let rest in the refrigerator one day before using.
